Molar Pregnancy

Molar pregnancies occur in 1:400-2000 pregnancies.

A molar pregnancy, or hyadiform mole, is a trophoblastic neoplasm.

A partial mole has 69 chormosomes from both parents.

A complete mole is an empty egg fertilized by 2 sperm, with all genetic material derived from the father.

 

 

Causes and Risk Factors

 

Any pregnancy can result in molar pregnancy.

Partial moles are more common with older women becoming pregnant.

 

 

Too much beta-hCG leads to hyperemeisis, IUGR

  • history and physical exam
  • lab investigations
  • diagnostic imaging

Exam shows uterus > dates

Lab Investigations

beta hCG is a perfect tumour marker.

Diagnostic Imaging
